AI Epistemic Impacts Initiative
Working to understand the impacts of AI on human thinking.
About
The AI Epistemic Impacts Initiative (EII) is a group of researchers working on the epistemic risks and virtues of AI. The aim is to understand the best ways to protect human minds from harm, and how AI can be used to strengthen humanity’s ability to make good decisions.
Already AI systems are used as digital advisers, tutors, confidants, and therapists. These interactions have the potential to change how people think, what they believe, and how they make important decisions.
What we do
EII members work together to discuss new findings, share work in progress and publish research. The work covers both the ways AI can harm human thinking and the ways it can support better reasoning and decision-making.
Current research projects (coming soon)
Cognitive capacities worth protecting
EII uses the mental functions defined in the WHO International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) as a map of which aspects of human cognition AI could harm or support.
